Pack Basket Weaving Workshop

  • The Lyons Farmette 4121 Ute Highway Lyons, CO 80540 United States (map)

Baskets were some of the very first carrying vessels––versatile, beautiful, and of great value to peoples from all over the world. It is an art form that lives in the cellular memory of our bodies and hands, which is why beginner weavers are often delighted to find both ease and familiarity with this rhythmic craft.

During this two-day workshop on the farm (Sun Jan 21 and Sun Jan 28 11:30-5:00, price includes both days of instruction), you will learn how to construct a functional and eye-catching piece of wearable art that can be taken with you wherever you go. No experience is required. Registration fee includes all materials.

April Tierney is a craftswoman, poet, and mother living in the hills outside of Lyons. She was the co-founder of Weave and Wimble, a small artisan and basketry co-operative along the Front Range. She has been a member of the Handweavers Guild of Boulder and has sold baskets of various sizes and shapes at many different stores, farmer's markets, and craft fairs throughout Colorado. April came to weaving soon after her mother died as a way to transform her grief into beauty. She believes in the power of our hands for healing, for honoring our ancestors through these ancient art forms, and for crafting a world worth living in. You can find some of her work on Etsy at tierneyhandmade.
